make it mine
Today was such a nice day.
For the rest of the summer, I’m going to volunteer on Thursday’s at a school for children with Autism. I’m close with the director of the school and other faculty there, and I’ve been volunteering with children with Autism for around seven years now. This is the field I plan on going into, so I figured why not volunteer at the school once a week when I’m not working? It’ll look good on my resume, it’s helpful to the children and teachers, and it’s a great learning experience for me. I had the best time today. God, there’s nothing that brightens your mood more than working with these kids. They’re all so beautiful and unique. Every child is such a complex individual and working with them is just like you’re cracking this mystery and helping them to become more free. Being in the school and surrounded by the teachers and kids, it just felt so right, I felt so at home. I know thta this is what I’m meant to be doing and I can’t wait to be doing it all my life. Never will I dread going to work, never will I be bored of the same routine. Every day is a new challenge and is room for new progress and it’s just so rewarding and wonderful.
And later on my guitar finally came in the mail, and it’s just so beautiful and I love it so much. My dad came into my room and I played him whatever songs he called out. We had the best time. I played everything for him from the Beatles to Taylor Swift. Man, do I love 60s and 70s folky music- it’s gotta be among my favorite stuff to play. Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, the Hollies. “House of the Rising Sun” sounded amazing. We just had such a good time, him calling out songs and me messing around. It made him so happy and it made me feel good to make him so happy. He’s been very tired lately from the chemo and radiation and has just been sleeping a lot. He hasn’t really left the house other than for work and for treatment, because it’s too hot out and there’s too many people around and whatnot, so playing his favorite songs for him, and just having him watch me play and sing made him really happy, so that made me happy, too.
I also got really awesome rain/snow boots today and I’m kind of wearing them right now, along with my pajamas, cause I love them so much.
In the words of Zac Brown, “life is good today, life is good today.”
